WHAT ARE THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH SWITCHING TO NATURAL GAS?
If your home is located on the planned construction route, and you request natural gas service with adequate notice, you won’t be responsible for up-front expenses to extend the service line to you home. You will be responsible for all in-home costs needed to facilitate the conversion to natural gas, including any appliance conversions. Customers have one year to convert their appliances to natural gas from the time Southwest Gas completes the installation of their home’s service line.
There’s a $35/meter per month Infrastructure Expansion Charge (IEC) for all residential customers taking service within with Spring Creek Expansion Area. This charge begins once your Southwest Gas meter is set and will be included on your monthly bill, regardless of your monthly usage. Similarly, commercial customers taking natural gas service in the Spring Creek Expansion Area will be assessed a monthly IEC of $70/meter per month, regardless of monthly usage. This charge will remain in place until a certain amount of Spring Creek Expansion project costs are recovered.
Southwest Gas is currently offering pre-conversion inspections to customers located with the Spring Creek expansion area along the current construction route. CAN MY EXISTING APPLIANCES BE CONVERTED TO USE NATURAL GAS?
Many appliances that are fueled by other energy sources, such as propane or heating oil, can be converted. A Southwest Gas representative can provide you with a list of licensed contractors who will be able to help you with this process.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS TO CONVERT MY HOME?
Convert your home to natural gas in three simple steps:
1. Southwest Gas will install a new service line to your home and set a natural gas meter.
2. A plumber or other contractor will complete the conversion process and obtain the required inspections and permits.
3. Once your home passes any inspections needed, we’ll turn on your gas.

This system includes three essential parts: the main line which services your neighborhood; a service line that connects the main line to your gas meter; and house lines to deliver gas from the meter to your appliances.
